Orlando Accident Leaves Teen and her Mother Dead

An Orlando car accident involving one vehicle leaves a 14-year-old Jacksonville girl and her mother dead. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, December 5, 2009 in an Orange County resort when the sport utility vehicle (SUV) the teen was driving overturned in a retention pond.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Ariel King, 14, of Jacksonville, was driving a 2004 GMC Yukon with her family on board, when she lost control of the SUV and drove through a fence. The vehicle overturned upside down in a retention pond trapping several family members. The incident began in the parking lot at a resort off South International Drive.

Dana King’s, Ariel’s mother, body was retrieved from inside the vehicle. Rescue workers pronounced her dead at the scene.

Rescue crews transported Ariel to a nearby Orlando hospital where she was placed on life support.  She eventually died from her injuries sustained in the accident.

There were several other family members injured in the accident including 3-year-old Brealyn Nesmith, who was also placed on life support. Brad Nesmith, 33, and Taylor Nesmith, 13, were able to escape the submerged SUV and suffered only minor injuries.

The Orlando accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
